Kanken is a privately owned business. The owner, Mandy J. Von Hagge started the business in 1976 and has spent her entire adult life in the business. She has continued to run the business into its current incarnation. She has also spent her time traveling the world. She has opened stores in Canada, Australia, and Spain. All of these places carried the Fjallraven line of products.

Mandy began designing children's gear as soon as she realized the demand for quality outdoor gear. The demand was so great that the store became so successful that it had to expand to other countries. The store now has stores in Canada and Australia. In addition, Kanken has opened stores in the United States. The store sells a wide range of bags, backpacks, and camping supplies.
