시즌(Season)은 리그에서 유래된 말로 한해동안 정기적인 스포츠 경기가 치뤄지는 시기를 뜻한다. K-리그를 예로 들자면 경기가 펼쳐지는 2월부터 11월까지가 한 시즌이다. 대체로 연초에 일정을 시작해서 연말에 마치는 아메리카 형식의 단년제와 7~8월에 시작하여 이듬 해 5월에 경기를 마치는 유럽형식의 연년제 시즌[1]으로 나눌 수 있다.
